Thor: Ragnarok has now been officially released all over the world. Whether you’re in Cambodia or in Cameroon, in Washington or in Paris, you can grab yourself your share of Hunkman-Hemsworth eye candy. But once you’re done drooling all over your popcorn (or if, for some odd chance, Hemsworth isn’t your kinda thing), you’ll need to decide if you actually enjoyed the movie…
Let the numbers do the talking
A week after the release, Thor: Ragnarok has smashed his way into the top opening movies on the box office list, with an estimated $121 million in the USA and $427 million worldwide. This tremendous figure has pushed the Marvel cinematic multiverse (17 movies) to gross over $13 billion worldwide. But what does that mean for Thor: Ragnarok? Well, in simple terms – good ol’ Thor is well on his way to out-gross the most successful superhero movies of the year: Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. And this movie just became the 4th largest opening movie in the US.
On a side note, Marvel does seem to have quite the upper hand if we look at the top 10 grossing opening weekends over the past decade:
|1||Star Wars: The Force Awakens||$247,966,675||6||Beauty and the Beast (2017)||$174,750,616|
|2||Jurassic world||$208,806,270||7||Iron Man 3||$174,144,585|
|3||Marvel’s The Avengers||$207,438,708||8||Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2||$169,189,427|
|4||Avengers: Age of Ultron||$191,271,109||9||Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice||$166,007,347|
|5||Captain America: Civil War||$179,139,142||10||The Dark Knight Rises||$160,887,295|
And what do the people say? The movie ratings for Thor: Ragnarok are almost too got to be true. Overall, Thor: Ragnarok scores a Hulkish 88%:
|IMBd: 82%||Metacritic: 73%||Google: 94%|
|Rotten Tomatoes: 93%||Common Sense: 90%||Me (yes, I’m an authority): 95%|
Beware, the movie action is about to start flying about. If you haven’t seen Thor: Ragnarok yet, you may want to take this chance to refresh your memory about who’s who in the Asgard zoo. Hop on over to Euro Palace and explore the realms of Odin, Thor and Loki in our very own tribute to the Norse god, Thunderstruck II. Get to know Asgard’s heroes and villains in the Great Hall of Spins and swing back a beer with Thor as your celebrate win after win.
What do we really think?
Well, once you’ve grown accustomed to short hair-futuristic armour Thor, it ain’t half bad! In fact, if you though Spider-Man: Homecoming was hilarious, then just wait until you watch this movie… The scene is set 2 years after the legendary battle of Sokovia. Thor is being held prisoner on the other side of the universe. To escape, he needs to battle his once-friend, the Hulk. It’s important he wins and escapes, as Loki has taken over Asgard, and Thor’s kingdom is now under the devious reign of Loki and is being terrorized by Hela.
I guess you’re turning away in horror because you haven’t seen the movie yet? Alright, I won’t give away too much. There are epic battles to try to stop the prophecy of Ragnarök, the end of Asgard, from being fulfilled. Thor aligns himself with Loki once again and together with Hulk and Valkyrie, they form an army to fight the battle of ages.
My rating: Get yourself to a cinema NOW and join the fight to save Asgard! This is quite possibly Marvel’s greatest offering since the Iron Man saga… I give this movie 4.5 out of 5 stars.
